The Promise of Barack
In two weeks, the nation will make a monumental decision that will inevitably change this country forever. Even though I was a political science major in college, my fundamental understanding of politics is not that great. I probably should have paid more attention in political science class but I was more interested in drinking, playing rugby, and fornicating with Caucasian women. But I digress. Back to the subject about this country and the decision that awaits the country on November 4. This nation is fucked up beyond all recognition. The main problem facing this country is that we are a country of bitchers. As a nation we love to collective piss, moan, complain, and throw pre-pubescent temper tantrums. “Our economy sucks!” “The American dollar has no value!” “Why are we obese?!” “Gas is high!” “Why do hybrids cost so damn much?” “Our educational system is horrible! Why aren’t our kids smarter?” We have so many problems that we can hardly think. That IS the problem.
Senator John McCain has an idea for the nation. He believes that he can simultaneously help social security, cure the economy, and solve the energy crisis. Hmmmm………I would like to drink the magic Kool-Aid but I just don’t think it is that easy. Social security is an outdated program that was designed when the life expectancy for most people was between 55-60 years of age. People can’t even retire until almost 65 now. I hope that whomever assumes the position of the presidency realizes that MAJOR overhaul is needed in this regard.
Let’s take a moment to reflect about Senator McCain. I did vote for John McCain in the much ballyhooed Republican primary of 2000. In the year 2000 I personally felt that John McCain was THE best candidate………….period. Unfortunately, George W. Bush and his Gestapo of right wing SS soldiers decimated McCain in the press and he lost handily. That was eight years ago. Things have changed since then. He and “W” have made up, which when I think about it really resembles the last scene in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith when Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader are overlooking the Death Star. Just kind of creeped me out a bit. John McCain is also a bit older. He is 72 years old. I am not saying that 72 is a bad age. People who are 72 have lots of life experience and wisdom. But I do not think that 72 is a good age to assume to most stressful position in the nation. 72 is the age when most people state winding down and enjoying the “golden years”.
In addition to McCain’s age, I REALLY think he should get a psychological evaluation and that it should be made public. I am wondering how he really survived the better part of a decade in Vietnam. His mental state just seems very cryptic and I am not too sure of his real intentions. This is just the tip of the iceberg. What really bothers me is that he seems to relish the fact that he was a mediocre/poor student at the United State Naval Academy. I wasn’t exactly a James Scholar in college but I was not in bottom 5 people either.
Senator Barack Obama is the embodiment of promise in this country. I am not just saying this because we both have a fair amount of melanin in our skin. Personally, I believe it is asinine to vote for someone solely based on their ethnicity. I have slightly more intellectual and moral integrity than that. Mr. Obama, like most Americans, is a mutt. He isn’t Black, he is bi-racial. Most people on the street would address him and identify him as African-American but his biological mother was Caucasian. Moreover, he was raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii. People make it seem like he was coming out of the “Straight Out of Compton” video by N.W.A.. The man is an intellectual. Unlike Senator McCain, Mr. Obama actually excelled academically. I feel that mental acumen is important. In my estimation, the office of the presidency of the United States warrants a person with the capacity to think clearly and efficiently about a multitude of subjects.
If Barack Obama ascends to the position of presidency of the United States of America it means that a minority has assumed the highest office in the United States government. If this happens, this means that the idea that intelligence and common sense can transcend a history of racism, bigotry, and fear has finally come to fruition. To people of color in this nation, his presidency would validate every Dr. King speech and the lifelong pursuits of Malcolm X and Nelson Mandela. I don’t want to make this a racial issue but I feel that, after working in public education with young African-American youths, that there must be a symbol that those kids need to aspire to. I used to be delusional/arrogant and believe that I was the ideal that they would pursue but I was called “Carlton Banks” instead.
I just want it to be admirable to be smart. The ideal that is emphasized in school by a large contingency of African-American youth is being “hood”. What the fuck is that about? What is so damn good about being a juvenile delinquent? Street credibility doesn’t mean very much in the real world. I am utterly disgusted with this faux-philosophy of pseudo toughness that has been marketed to the masses. I blame a lot of the corruption on BET (which I will devote an entire blog to).
In regards to Barack Obama’s policies I have actually looked over his energy plan. Using clean coal to lesson our dependency on foreign fuel seems like a good idea. Personally, I hope that he creates an initiative to begin work on making more oil refineries so that the price of gasoline may drop. The universal health care I think is reminiscent of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal” program. It looks good on paper, but in the capitalist society we have I doubt that it could function. Senator McCain has accused Senator Obama of being a liar in regards to his economic policy, but I figure that every politician will raise taxes. I honestly believe that the American middle class might have some financial success with Barack Obama as president.
I will end this diatribe by just saying that the past eight years have been filled with mediocrity at every level. Although I do not hold George W. Bush solely responsible, his regime can be charged with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, voter fraud (yes I said and you know its true), waging a war that has no end in sight, ruining foreign relations, and creating an overall political divide, the size of which would rival the Bermuda triangle. I hope both candidates have the nation’s best . interests in mind but I personally believe Senator Obama is the best candidate. I like John McCain but I am sure of his allegiance to the Bush administration. Plus think about what would happen if he DID win and happened to pass away during his administration…………….President Sarah Palin. Think about that on November 4.
